Edge or Wedge Resection

Recovery & Transformation Journey
Phase 1: Days 0–2
Swelling and tenderness are normal. Rest at the partner hotel, use cool packs and loose cotton underwear, and rinse gently after using the toilet.
Phase 2: Days 3–7
Desk work is usually possible after about 3 days. Avoid long sitting on hard surfaces, tight clothing and baths. Check-up before flying home, after around 4 hotel nights.
Phase 3: Weeks 2–6
The sutures dissolve and swelling steadily reduces. Swimming, cycling, sport, tampons and intercourse are usually resumed at around 4–6 weeks, once your surgeon confirms.
Phase 4: Months 2–3
Residual swelling settles and the final shape becomes visible, usually by around 3 months. Remote follow-up remains available for any questions.

Indicated / Suitable For
- Adult women (18 and older) whose inner labia rub or cause discomfort in tight clothing, during sport, cycling or intercourse
- Women with noticeable asymmetry or elongation of the labia minora (labial hypertrophy)
- Women with recurrent irritation or difficulty with intimate hygiene caused by excess labial tissue
- Women in good general health whose wish for surgery is their own, made without pressure from a partner or others
- Patients with realistic expectations about the natural variation in labial shape and colour and about healing time
Contraindications / Not Suitable
- Age under 18, as genital development may not be complete
- Active vulvar or vaginal infection (e.g. thrush, bacterial vaginosis or a herpes outbreak), which must be treated before surgery
- Pregnancy, the first months after childbirth or breastfeeding, while the tissues are still changing
- Untreated vulvar skin conditions (e.g. lichen sclerosus), bleeding disorders or uncontrolled diabetes
- Expectations of a “perfect” or specific look, or marked distress about genital appearance (possible body dysmorphic concern), which should be discussed and supported first

Potential Risks & Complications

Expected in the first days and usually strongest around days 2–3; cool packs, rest, loose cotton underwear and pain relief keep it manageable, and it settles over several weeks.
A small part of the suture line can open, more often after wedge resection or with early pressure or friction; avoiding tight clothing, long sitting and intercourse until cleared lowers the risk, and small openings usually heal on their own or are repaired once the tissue has settled.
A small collection of blood can form in the first 48 hours; careful bleeding control during surgery and cool packs reduce the risk, and a larger haematoma is checked and drained if needed.
Uncommon; gentle rinsing after using the toilet, keeping the area dry and avoiding baths and swimming until healed are the main measures, and treatment is started promptly if redness or discharge appears.
Temporary numbness, tingling or heightened sensitivity along the scar is common and usually fades over weeks to months; the resection is planned away from the clitoris and its nerve supply to lower the risk, although a lasting change cannot be completely excluded.
Slight differences between the sides, an uneven edge or a colour change at the border can remain; conservative planning that keeps enough tissue is preferred, because removed tissue cannot be replaced.
Realistic Expectations & Outcomes
Labiaplasty reduces and reshapes the inner labia to ease rubbing and irritation and to improve symmetry. The aim is a natural, individual appearance rather than a standard template, and small differences between the two sides remain normal. The procedure does not change the outer labia or the vaginal canal. Swelling is most noticeable in the first week and settles gradually over 4–6 weeks, when most women resume sport, tampons and intercourse after the surgeon's approval. Some residual swelling can persist longer, so the final shape is usually judged at around 3 months, once the scar has softened.
Revision & Follow-Up Policy
Follow-up continues remotely after you fly home, with discreet check-ins at around 1, 3 and 6 months and direct contact with your coordinator in between. Because swelling can hide the true shape, any question of asymmetry or remaining excess is assessed only after the tissue has fully settled, usually from 3–6 months. If a small secondary correction is considered, the surgeon reviews it individually, based on the examination findings and your wishes.
