How Much Does Weight-Loss Surgery Cost in Turkey in 2026? Prices, Inclusions and What Affects the Cost

The “from” prices for a gastric sleeve in Turkey, gastric bypass and bariatric revision surgery refer to a package, not only to the operation itself. According to the confirmed care plan, the package includes:

• Private transfers between airport, hotel and hospital throughout your stay;
• Hospital stay at the partner hospital (nights as shown in the table above), including the operation and general anaesthesia;
• Partner-hotel accommodation for sleeve and bypass, per the plan; revision surgery has no hotel stay, because the whole early recovery takes place in hospital;
• Pre-operative tests and examinations listed in the treatment plan;

To build a realistic budget, plan separately for:

• Return flights (yours and those of any companion);
• Extra nights in the hotel or hospital if you choose to stay longer or if they are not part of the plan;
• Personal expenses: a companion’s meals, shopping, phone costs, travel outside the scheduled transfers;
• Medically necessary additional tests or treatment not foreseen in the initial plan that arise from the evaluation in Istanbul.

If the evaluation shows that something extra is needed, you are told before surgery and receive written confirmation.

The starting price is the point of departure. The final cost is set individually, in writing, after a full medical evaluation. Factors that can influence it:

• BMI and related conditions (for example type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea, high blood pressure), which may call for extra tests or specialist reviews. International guidelines recommend a team-based pre-operative evaluation tailored to each patient;
• Additional procedures, such as repair of a hiatal hernia found at endoscopy or during surgery. The medical literature describes repairing a hiatal hernia in the same operation as the sleeve in patients with hernia and reflux;
• Revision complexity: the type of first operation, adhesions and the chosen technique (re-sleeve, conversion to bypass, gastric band removal);
• Extra hospital nights if your post-operative course requires them.

The process is simple and involves no deposit:

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the CDC advise that, before surgery abroad, patients check the surgeon’s qualifications and the hospital’s accreditation, understand what happens if a complication occurs and know how they will be followed up after returning home. Ask every clinic the same questions:

• Who performs the operation, and what specialist training and bariatric experience does the surgeon have?
• In which hospital does the surgery take place, and what licences or accreditations does it hold (for example Ministry of Health licensing and JCI accreditation)?
• What exactly does the price include and exclude? Can I have that list in writing?
• Which pre-operative tests are included?
• What does follow-up look like once I am home, and how long does it last?
• Is there complications insurance? What does it cover and for how long?
• Will I receive full medical records at discharge (operative report, discharge summary, instructions)?

A very low offer that cannot answer these questions clearly is not really comparable with a transparent one.

For many patients travelling from Europe, the reasons are mainly practical:

• Straightforward paperwork: entry rules depend on your nationality, so check the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs before booking. Romanian citizens, for example, can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, including with a valid national identity card;
• Short flights: Istanbul has two international airports (IST and SAW) with direct flights from many European cities — from Romania, for example, flights typically take around 1.5–2 hours;
• Predictable time zone: Turkey stays on UTC+3 all year;
• One coordinated package: transfers, hospital, hotel and follow-up organised by the same team, with a coordinator on WhatsApp.
