An authoritative clinical guide detailing how Tandem IVF protocols coordinate ovarian stimulation of the patient alongside a screened egg donor, maintaining strictly separate embryo cohorts to maximize reproductive options.
For women with diminished ovarian reserve, advanced maternal age, or prior unsuccessful IVF cycles, Tandem Cycle IVF provides a specialized dual-pathway clinical strategy. This approach coordinates ovarian stimulation of the patient alongside a young, screened egg donor during the same treatment cycle. Meva Clinic coordinates international fertility pathways with specialized partner fertility clinics in Northern Cyprus. How Tandem IVF Works: Synchronized Dual Stimulation
During a tandem cycle, the prospective mother undergoes individualized ovarian stimulation to retrieve her own oocytes, while an anonymous, rigorously screened egg donor is stimulated concurrently at the partner fertility center. Both sets of retrieved oocytes are fertilized in the embryology laboratory with the partner's (or donor's) sperm. Crucially, patient eggs and donor eggs are never physically mixed: they are fertilized and cultured in strictly separate, clearly labeled laboratory cohorts.
Embryology Tracking and Transfer Decision-Making
Laboratory monitoring tracks the blastocyst development of both cohorts independently. On Day 5, the clinical team and the patient evaluate the quantity and morphological quality of the resulting embryos. If the patient's own eggs yield viable, high-quality blastocysts, priority can be given to transferring autologous embryos. Surplus embryos from either cohort may be cryopreserved for future frozen embryo transfer cycles based on informed patient consent.
Donor Screening Standards and Realistic Expectations
In Northern Cyprus, partner fertility institutions follow standardized donor screening protocols covering infectious disease screening (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, Syphilis), karyotyping, and genetic carrier screening. While tandem cycling provides an important emotional and biological balance for patients with low AMH, treatment outcomes vary individually based on uterine receptivity, sperm quality, and maternal health; the procedure does not guarantee pregnancy or live birth.
